What You’ll Do:
- Animal Health Assessment – Evaluate the health of incoming shelter animals, record observations, and update medical records.
- Veterinary Procedures – Administer vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick control, and prescribed medications.
- Surgical Support – Assist with surgical preparation, monitoring, and post-operative care.
- Daily Health Monitoring – Regularly assess the condition of shelter animals and report concerns to the Director.
- Animal Adoption & Rescue Support – Help determine adoptability and assist in releasing animals to approved rescue groups.
- Microchipping – Safely implant and register microchips for both shelter and owned animals.
- Record-Keeping – Maintain accurate data entry in the Animal Services software system.
- Euthanasia Procedures – Conduct euthanasia as required, following all policies and proper drug documentation.
- Training & Mentorship – Guide Animal Care Technicians, ensuring proper care and handling of animals.
- Public Interaction – Assist citizens with animal-related inquiries and educate them on shelter policies.
- Facility Maintenance – Ensure a clean and safe environment for animals and visitors.
- Administrative Support – Cross-train with administrative staff and assist with euthanasia list preparation.
- Community Outreach – Represent the division at public meetings when requested.
What We’re Looking For:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Veterinary Technologist/Technician program and current registration as a Veterinary Technician, with 1+ years of experience in assessing animal health, including administering vaccines and medications; OR
- 2+ years of experience performing veterinary technician duties, including assessing animal health and administering vaccines/medications.
- Animal Handling: Experience working with large and/or aggressive animals, including behavior management and health concerns.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, breeds, health issues, housing needs, and safe handling.
- Experience with basic office skills, including data entry, organization, and multitasking.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Compassionate approach to animal care.
- Ability to provide reliable transportation without depending on company vehicles.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
- Customer service-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Compliance with GCHD immunization & ICS training policies.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required but a Plus):
- Previous experience in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic.
- Euthanasia certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Advanced animal handling training.
Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
